Just came across your blog for the first time, and I'm glad I did--this particular post is highly relevant and so carefully organized--great stuff.

I will have to check out some of the books you linked . . . Would you mind if I share this post with the readers over on my blog via a link to you? Just let me know--

I'll stop by again, too!

[...] Yesterday, Soul Shelter posed the question, “What if the Internet poses a threat to the cultivation of a rich, reflective inner life? What if Internet-mentality endangers Art—its creation, its place in our culture, and our ability to appreciate it?—or the cultivation of real knowledge?” and reviewed these books.
This was an interesting counterpoint to "Stalking the Spotlight" and the dissection of the starving artist idea. My instinct is to reject the idea that just because something is popular (mass culture), it can't be valuable.

But then again, I would hardly call most of what's on YouTube enlightening. This answer probably seems like a cop-out at this point, but I think there's a balance to be found.

Perhaps it's taking the time to read a challenging book, working your tail off to wrestle with it, and then getting to hear opinions and insight from people with very different backgrounds and views by being part of an online book group.

Either way, I appreciate the reading suggestions and the encouragement to live in, well, real time.
